Sagittarius Full Moon: Expanding the Mind, Rewiring the Story

full moon in field of flowers representing full moon in sagittarius

On May 31st at 1:44am PST, the Full Moon rises in Sagittarius, illuminating the sky with the second Full Moon of May; a Blue Moon. Blue Moons are rare and mystical, symbolically representing a journey throughout the month of May that begins + culminated on an emotional note.

The first Full Moon of May rose in Scorpio on the very first day of the month, pulling us deep into the waters of emotional truth. Now, on the final day of May, this Sagittarius Full Moon arrives like fire after the immersion. Where Scorpio asked us to descend, Sagittarius asks us to rise, expand and reinterpret the meaning of what we’ve lived through. There is something symbolic here about beginning the month in water and ending it in fire; moving from emotional excavation into broader perspective and possibility. This Blue Moon feels like a threshold between chapters; a bridge between the emotional truths we uncovered and the new vision now trying to emerge from them.

The Sun in Gemini is moving toward an increasingly tense square with the lunar nodes in Virgo and Pisces, while also loosely conjunct Uranus; the planet of awakening, disruption, nervous system activation and radical perspective shifts. We are approaching the exact Uranus square to the nodes on June 12th at 2° Gemini, a transit that is deeply collective and personal. Something about the way we think, communicate, learn, process information and orient ourselves toward reality is changing rapidly. This Full Moon asks:

Do your thoughts, beliefs, and narratives actually support the life you are trying to grow into? Or are they keeping you tethered to an identity, coping mechanism, or worldview you have already outgrown?

Gemini & Sagittarius: The Student and the Teacher

This lunation activates the Gemini–Sagittarius axis: the polarity of learning and wisdom.

Gemini gathers information; Sagittarius searches for meaning. Gemini asks questions; Sagittarius seeks truth. Gemini notices patterns in the immediate environment; while Sagittarius zooms out toward the horizon, trying to understand the larger story unfolding through it all.

In many ways, Gemini represents the lower mind: the analytical processes that sort, label, compare, question, and communicate. Sagittarius represents the higher mind: philosophy, intuition, belief systems, spiritual frameworks and the search for purpose. Neither is superior - without Gemini, Sagittarius can become dogmatic, disconnected from reality, or lost in abstraction. Without Sagittarius, Gemini can drown in information without ever arriving at wisdom.

This Full Moon asks us to find balance between the two. To remain curious enough to keep learning… while also discerning what is genuinely true for us. Because we are living in a time of information overload, and with Uranus electrifying Gemini, many people are experiencing exactly that in their nervous systems: overstimulation, racing thoughts, fragmented attention, difficulty grounding, sudden realizations, unexpected conversations, changing perspectives and rapid shifts in identity or direction. This energy can feel exhilarating... but also potentially unsettling.

Full Moon in Sagittarius Embodied

Astrology is never just psychological or spiritual; these archetypes live within the body. Gemini rules the lungs, breath, shoulders, arms, hands and the intricate neural pathways that help us communicate and connect. It governs exchange; the movement of information between systems. Sagittarius rules the hips, thighs, liver, and the body's growth processes. It is associated with movement, expansion, exploration and our instinct to move beyond limitation.

Gemini is the inhale of curiosity, while Sagittarius is the exhale of meaning. Gemini scatters energy outward through networks and stimulation, while Sagittarius seeks direction and coherence. Under this Full Moon, many may feel the tension between mental stimulation and embodied truth. You may notice: nervous system overwhelm, difficulty focusing, racing thoughts, an urge to escape or “figure everything out”, a deep desire for freedom or change, tension in the hips, shoulders, jaw, or breath.

This is why grounding practices matter so deeply right now. To create enough spaciousness within the body to actually hear yourself beneath the noise during this tme of rapid change.

The Mutable Grand Cross: A Turning Point

This Full Moon is making a powerful mutable grand square involving the lunar nodes in Virgo and Pisces and Uranus in Gemini. Mutable signs adapt - they shift, refine, evolve and transition. But under this pressure, mutable energy can also spiral into chaos, anxiety, indecision, escapism, overthinking, or nervous system fragmentation.

The South Node in Virgo is asking us to release outdated perfectionism, hyper-control, over-analysis and the need to intellectually manage every uncertainty before taking action. The North Node in Pisces asks us to soften our grip enough to reconnect with intuition, trust, imagination, spirituality and emotional surrender.

But Uranus in Gemini complicates this process, as he doesn't gently guide us toward change... he disrupts, awakens, liberates and electrifies. This transit is rapidly changing the ways we communicate, teach, learn, market, share information, build community and perceive reality itself. Many people are realizing that the systems, beliefs, careers, communication styles, or identities they once relied on no longer fit who they are becoming. This energy invites us to stay open enough to evolve, expand our minds and rewire our story.

Mercury at the Edge

Mercury, ruler of the Gemini Sun, sits at the 28th degree of Gemini during this lunation. There is a sense of mental culmination here; conversations, realizations, or thought patterns may reach a tipping point.

Before leaving Gemini for the watery, intuitive depths of Cancer, Mercury also forms a loose sextile to Chiron in the final degree of Aries as it prepares to leave Aries on June 19th and enter Taurus for the first time since the 1980s. This energy offers us an early, easeful glimpse into a healing journey that will unfold through 2034. Chiron will retrograde back into Aries from September until April 2027, but otherwise will move through Taurus steadily.

Chiron in Aries has been exposing wounds around identity, courage, selfhood, anger, autonomy and the right to exist as we are. Chiron in Taurus will begin shifting the collective healing process toward themes of: worthiness, survival, nervous system safety, body image, finances and resources, relationship to the Earth, pleasure and receptivity.

Many people are already beginning to feel this transition - especially those with Cardinal (Aries, Libra, Cancer, Capricorn) or Fixed energy (Taurus, Scorpio, Aquarius, Leo). The question here becomes: Can you build a life, nervous system, and relationship to yourself that actually feels sustainable?

Mercury in its home sign of Gemini here may offer mental clarity or new perspectives to help us deal with feelings of rejection, allowing us to integrate our wounds as unique wisdom to find wholeness.

Jupiter in Cancer: Emotional Truth

Jupiter, ruler of this Sagittarius Full Moon, is now in Cancer and squaring Chiron in Aries.

This adds emotional depth and sensitivity to an otherwise highly mental/airy sky.

Cancer reminds us that wisdom is not just intellectual... it is emotional, ancestral and felt. You may find yourself reflecting on your sense of belonging, what safety truly means for you, how the past has informed your future vision, and whether your current path is truly nourishing you emotionally.

This square can bring up defensiveness, vulnerability, or old emotional wounds connected to self-protection and identity... but it also offers the possibility of profound healing when we stop trying to think our way out of what the body already knows.

This Sagittarius Full Moon demands the courage to be honest with yourself about the stories you keep repeating... about the beliefs you inherited; about the nervous system patterns shaping your decisions; and about whether your current perspective is helping you grow - or keeping you small.

Sagittarius reminds us that life is meant to expand us... but true expansion isn't always about 'more'. Sometimes expansion looks like releasing a worldview that no longer fits, admitting you were wrong, or simply slowing down enough to be brutally honest with yourself. And under this approaching Uranus square, perhaps it begins with the a simple, awakening thought: maybe there is another way to see this. See below for an embodiment practice + journal prompts!

Embodiment Practice | Open Your Mind with Zumgarden🍄

If it feels supportive, this can be a beautiful time to work intentionally with plant allies that help open perspective and soften rigid mental loops. I’ve personally been loving the Zumgarden Lucid Blend lately during this Gemini/Uranus energy (use ASTROBLOOM for 10% OFF). Its blend of microdosed psilocybin, lotus pollen, reishi and adaptogens feels deeply aligned with this Full Moon’s invitation to expand perception, regulate the nervous system, and reconnect to curiosity, clarity and possibility.

Light a candle and begin with several deep breaths:

  • inhale through the nose for 4

  • exhale slowly for 6

Notice the stories, worries, or thought loops circulating through your mind. Instead of trying to “solve” them, simply observe them.

Then begin gently moving the body:

  • shake out the arms + shoulders

  • stretch the hips + thighs

  • let the breath move through you

  • allow stagnant energy to soften + shift

Close the ritual by journaling on this question (more prompts below):

What perspective, belief, or story am I ready to outgrow?

Where is 9 degrees Gemini + Sagittarius in my chart? How does this relate to what's coming up for me?

Where have I been consuming too much information without truly listening to myself?

What perspective shift could create more freedom, expansion, or possibility in my life right now?

What does my body feel like when I am connected to truth instead of fear?
