On July 5 at 6:57pm EST, the Sun & Moon meet in 14 degrees of Cancer. Illuminated by the Sun in its home sign of the mother archetype, this Moon may bring intense emotions to the surface from the past.Â
Meeting with Venus and in a difficult aspect to the nodes of fate, this lunation may bring up some of our earliest wounding in an effort to help us begin a new cycle in our current relationships. While Venus simultaneously creates a positive aspect to both Neptune & Uranus, inviting in a sense of surrender & liberation from the past.
This energy serves as a potent reminder that our relationship with ourselves is where all others begin. This lunation will most intensely impact those with personal placements in Cardinal signs (Aries, Libra, Cancer, Capricorn). Find out if this is you by taking a look at this video & this PDF.

Cancer, the Inner Mother & Abandonment Wounds
Cancer is attuned to the source of life, which is both creative and destructive. This is the primordial chaos symbolized by the Uroboros, the serpent eating its own tail. The crab symbolizes the mother, nurturing, the womb, our emotions, our roots, and sense of emotional security - and is therefore deeply connected to our inner Self. This energy shines a light on the sense of security we have within ourselves, as a result of our ability to self-soothe and meet our emotional needs.Â
Â
With the conscious and subconscious mind meeting in the deep waters of the crab, the patterns established in childhood to receive nurturing & feel secure may surface in a new light. We may also uncover new depths about our inner child, any rejection or abandonment wounds and how to move past or heal them.
In particular, I’ve been sensing themes of abandonment being triggered in my own life and those around me. This may seem more intense than in the past because of the 29th degree being highlighted this month, which invited in a sense of urgency and final lessons to be learned (activated by Neptune and the upcoming Capricorn Full Moon). We started Cancer season with a Capricorn Full Moon at the first degree of the sign, and will finish it with a Capricorn Full Moon in the final degree. This Cancer New Moon occurs right in the middle, bridging these lessons and energies - and highlighting our relationship to the inner mother and father archetype within us. Â
Cancer energy symbolizes the nourishment we receive to establish a strong foundation of emotional security in life (4th house) so that we can shine our authentic light out into the world by being in our own authority (10th house/Capricorn). However, many of us experience insufficient nourishment, and even abandonment (whether physical or emotional) throughout our upbringing which shapes our beliefs about ourselves. As children, it is hard to understand that a caregiver leaving or not being emotionally available has everything to do with them and little to do with us - so we start to attach meaning to someone not being there for us. We begin to equate this lack of presence as proof that we are ‘not good enough’, or that we are ‘too much’. As a result, we start to self-abandon those parts of self that we deem too much or not enough - and our inner child and authenticity suffers as a result.Â
At this time, we may have the opportunity to release a layer of these narratives and heal our inner parent/child dynamic. We might do this by recognizing patterns in the relationships that are showing up in our lives, and instead of self-abandoning to keep the connection alive - we can find ways to self-soothe, heal our inner child, and tend to those parts we may have tried to hide away. Only by creating this inner foundation can we attract and maintain the nurturing and authentic connections we desire.
