Pisces Lunar Eclipse: The Ultimate Trust Fall
Updated: Aug 22

On August 27th at 9:18pm PST, a Lunar Eclipse illuminates the waters of Pisces, bringing us to a liminal space between endings + beginnings, knowing + not knowing, discernment + surrender.
Full Moons are usually moments of culmination. Lunar eclipses even more so. They illuminate what has been building beneath the surface, often bringing chapters to completion whether or not we feel ready to close them. And yet, this eclipse carries us toward the North Node which points to the future... So there is something ouroboric about it: the snake eating its own tail, the ending becoming the beginning, one cycle dissolving as another is already being born from within it.
We are standing in the transitional space between two eclipse stories. The Virgo–Pisces axis that has shaped the past eighteen months is reaching its culmination (since late 2024/early 2025), while the Leo–Aquarius axis begins opening an entirely new chapter around authenticity, individuality, belonging, community + our relationship to the collective (since February 2026). The last eclipse (on August 12) was the start of the Leo/Aquarius cycle, while this one points to a completion. So this eclipse isn't simply asking us what needs to end... but about what becomes possible when we finally stop trying to control what happens next.
The Space Between Discernment + Surrender
The South Node's journey through Virgo since January 2025 has asked us to look closely at our relationship with control. Virgo wants to understand. It gathers information, notices patterns, analyzes details + tries to determine the correct next step. At its best, this is discernment: the ability to see reality clearly and respond intentionally. But discernment has a shadow... sometimes we keep analyzing because we don't actually want to know the truth. We replay things. Reinterpret the signs. Search for the missing piece of information. Wonder whether we should try one more thing, say one more thing, wait a little longer, look at it from another angle. Eventually, discernment can become analysis paralysis... and sometimes analysis paralysis is actually avoidance wearing a disguise. Because as long as we are still wondering, we don't have to accept an answer. As long as there is another possibility to consider, another interpretation to entertain, another action we could take, we can remain suspended between realities instead of accepting whatever is unfolding.
The Pisces North Node has been teaching us something very different... there comes a point where there is nothing left to solve, there is only surrender.
The River Needs Banks

Pisces is the final sign of the zodiac: the place where the individual self begins to dissolve back into something larger. Its symbol is two fish, bound together yet swimming in opposite directions; a symbol I often think of as the relationship between our human selves and the divine. One part of us is here, embodied in a human life, making choices with the limited information available to us. The other belongs to something much greater: the larger unfolding we can sense but may never fully understand because it's what asks us to have faith.
There are moments when life asks us to stop swimming so hard and allow ourselves to be carried by the current. To trust that we don't have to know exactly where the river leads in order to follow it, to have faith that what is meant for us shouldn't require us swim upstream. But Pisces is not the only archetype present at this eclipse...
Across the zodiac sit the Sun + Mercury in Virgo: discerning, practical and deeply rooted in the reality of what is actually here. This is where the metaphor becomes more complicated, because we aren't meant to simply float through our lives, surrendering every decision to the current. Sometimes there is something worth swimming for, sometimes the current is carrying us somewhere we don't want to go, and sometimes surrender becomes fantasy or avoidance dressed up as trust.
The work is in discerning the difference - building the containment for the current to take us in the general direction of where we want to go. I often associate Pisces with rivers and lakes; bodies of water that can hold extraordinary depth while still being given shape by the land around them. A river needs its banks. Without them, the water doesn't become more liberated; it spills outward, loses direction and floods the surrounding landscape. The banks don't restrict the river's movement - they create the container that allows it to flow.
I think that our emotional and spiritual depths aren't so different. There is a difference between suppressing what we feel and giving it somewhere safe to exist... between hiding our depth and entering it at a pace that allows us to discover what can actually hold it. Not everything we feel needs to pour out at once, and not every swim needs to be become a deep dive to the bottom of the riverbed.
Virgo gives Pisces its riverbanks: boundaries, discernment, pacing, structure. But Pisces reminds Virgo that the banks were never meant to fully control where the river ultimately goes - because that's the magical mystery of life.
I think the deeper invitation of this Virgo/Pisces journey we have all been on since late 2024/early 2025 is knowing when to swim, when to float, and realizing when you've been swimming against the current for so long that surrender is no longer giving up... it's finally trusting where the river is trying to take you.
Pisces Lunar Eclipse: Surrender or Avoidance?

The Pisces shadow expression is idealizing possibility. It can live inside the imagined future rather than the present moment, becoming attached to potential, symbolism + what something could mean while turning away from what is happening.
This is where the Virgo–Pisces axis becomes so nuanced - because sometimes surrender means trusting what we cannot see... and sometimes it means believing what we can see. There is a difference between leaving room for mystery + refusing to acknowledge reality because the mystery feels easier to live inside.
The thing is - discerment and trust are not mutually exclusive. One end of this axis can't exist without the other - and we are learning how deeply these two signs need one another. Virgo observes what is. Pisces releases the need to control what happens next. Virgo says: This is what I can see. Pisces says: And I can surrender everything I do not know.
Effort vs. Exhaustion
There is a particular kind of exhaustion that comes from trying to hold together something that no longer responds to our effort. A collaboration. A dream. A relationship. A friendship. A path we thought we would take. A future we imagined. Even a version of ourselves we have outgrown.
There are times when reaching is courageous... When honesty asks us to risk rejection, a dream requires another attempt, when surrender would actually be resignation, fear or avoidance disguised as spirituality. But there are also times when effort becomes another attempt to control an outcome that is no longer entirely ours to determine. We keep pushing. Fixing. Analyzing. Reworking. Trying another route. Looking for the missing piece that might finally make everything fall into place. Eventually, we have to ask: Is this actually mine to carry?
Because there is a difference between participating wholeheartedly in our lives and believing we are solely responsible for making a particular future happen. We can tend what is ours. We can speak, choose, create, repair, try again. But we cannot control every variable, guarantee every outcome or force life to meet the timeline we imagined for it. This is another expression of the Virgo–Pisces axis: discernment asks us to recognize where our agency ends. Surrender asks us to trust what happens beyond it.
If we have acted in integrity with ourselves, there may come a moment when there truly is nothing left to do because the next chapter depends upon forces beyond our control. Surrender doesn't always require us to close the door... sometimes it simply means releasing our grip on the handle. We don't have to lock it or slam it shut... we just need to stop exhausting ourselves if our arms are tired and turn around long enough to notice where else life might be asking us to go.
The Ultimate Trust Fall
I keep thinking about surrender as a kind of ultimate trust fall - except there is nobody standing behind us promising they will catch us. We don't know what happens after we let go, whether we'll regret a choice we made, whether the road we didn't take would lead somewhere beautiful or tragic... we don't get to know. I think that's precisely the point here.
Pisces reminds us that life has always contained more variables than our minds could possibly calculate. There is no amount of analysis that can protect us from every future regret and no perfectly discerning decision that guarantees we will never wonder 'what if'?
Eventually, we have to walk through the dark without knowing exactly where the path leads. We continue moving toward whatever light we can see, with an open heart, trusting that things will always work out how they're meant to. This kind of trust teaches us that whatever happens, we will meet ourselves there... even if 'there' is not where our limited human mind expected or hoped to end up.
Rewriting the Story

Mercury meets the Sun in Virgo and the Leo South Node during this eclipse, sitting opposite the Pisces Moon + placing the mind directly into opposition with the unknown. There may be realizations arriving now... Conversations, memories or pieces of information may suddenly reorganize the way we understand the stories we've been living.
Uranus in Gemini complicates the picture, forming a tense square to the eclipse and a harmonious aspect to Neptune in Aries. It distrupts the narratives we have previously used to make sense of our experiences related to surrender and control. Sometimes the breakthrough isn't new information, but realizing that we have been asking the wrong question... Instead of: What should I have done differently? Maybe the question becomes: Why do I believe this was mine to control?
Instead of trying to determine what something means, perhaps we become curious about the story we are creating from what is happening, and whether that story is actually one we want to carry forward.
Meanwhile, Neptune in Aries, ruler of this Pisces lunation, forms a supportive sextile to Uranus. There is possibility within the disruption... A different story, path or future we could not have calculated from where we were standing before. Neptune asks us to trust beyond what the rational mind can prove, while Uranus interrupts the familiar circuitry through which we've been interpreting our lives. Maybe we don't need to think our way into a new reality... just loosen our grip on the old story long enough for another possibility to appear.
Building What Can Hold the Future
Jupiter, the traditional ruler of Pisces, is travelling through Leo + forming a supportive trine with Saturn in Aries. I love this energy beneath an eclipse containing so much uncertainty, because while Pisces reminds us that we cannot control everything, Saturn reminds us that surrender doesn't mean abandoning agency... There are still things we can build, choices we can make and dreams that require devotion, courage and structure.
Jupiter in Leo wants us to expand toward a life that feels creatively alive + authentically ours, while Saturn in Aries asks us to build the foundations capable of sustaining that expansion. This is exactly where our energy belongs now... not endlessly reaching backward to keep old possibilities alive, but investing ourselves into what is actively asking to be built.
The End Is Already the Beginning

The Virgo–Pisces story is completing while the Leo–Aquarius story begins under this eclipse season. The North Node is now moving through Aquarius while the South Node moves through Leo, opening an entirely new eighteen-month conversation around authenticity + performance, individuality + community, personal significance + collective belonging.
The ouroboros reminds us that endings + beginnings are not opposites - they belong to the same cycle... something returns to the earth and something else begins growing from exactly that place. We don't have to know what it will become yet. So this is where the trust fall comes in... with invitation of this Pisces Lunar Eclipse forcing us to stop demanding that the darkness reveals the entire path before we're willing to take another step. To see what's here, believe what we see, say what needs to be said, and act where action is ours to take. And then, when we have genuinely done what belongs to us, to loosen our hands and let life respond. There will always be another hypothetical timeline the Virgo mind can construct, but we can't live inside every possible future.
Maybe trust is not believing that everything we desire will inevitably find its way to us... but knowing that we don't have to chase every path to discover whether it was ours. What is asking to be built will give us something to build with, and what has reached the limits of our agency does not become ours to force. When there is truly nothing left for us to do? We surrender, step into the unknown, keep ourselves open to life + keep flowing with the current.
Happy eclipse,

Embodiment Practice | Surrendering to the Water
If you have safe access to a lake, ocean or other calm body of water, enter slowly + take a few moments to simply feel the water against your skin.
When you feel ready, allow yourself to float. Notice your first instinct. Do you tense your stomach? Lift your head? Hold your breath? Kick your feet? Try to keep yourself afloat rather than allowing yourself to be held?
Without forcing yourself to relax, begin softening wherever you can. Let your ears sink beneath the surface. Let your gaze soften toward the sky. Feel the movement of your breath gently changing the buoyancy of your body. Notice how little effort is actually required. Let the water become a physical experience of surrender.
With each exhale, imagine releasing something you have been trying to control: an outcome, an answer, a timeline, a decision you keep revisiting. You might quietly repeat: I release what is not mine to carry. I trust what I know. I surrender what I cannot know. I allow myself to be held by the unknown.
Stay for as long as feels safe + comfortable. When you are ready, return to shore slowly. Before moving on with your day, notice whether anything feels different when you stop asking yourself to hold everything up.
If floating isn't safely accessible to you, recreate the symbolism on land: lie on the earth with your arms open, close your eyes + consciously allow your full weight to be received by the ground beneath you.
Follow with the journal prompts below.

Find 4 degrees Pisces/Virgo in your birth chart. What houses do they illuminate? What story around control, discernment, surrender + trust has been unfolding across these areas of life during the past eighteen months?
Where might analysis have become avoidance? Is there something you keep thinking about because remaining in the question feels safer than accepting what you already observe?
Is there somehwere in your life where effort is an authentic expression of courage + care, or are you carrying responsibility that requires another variable to meet you halfway?
What would it mean to release your grip on the handle without closing the door? What changes if you don't need to decide the entire future right now?
If you trusted yourself to meet whatever happens next, what would you finally allow yourself to surrender?
