Pisces New Moon: From the Cosmic Womb

On March 18th at 6:32pm PST, the Moon and Sun meet at the 28th degree of Pisces, initiating a New Moon that arrives just days before the Spring Equinox… the beginning of the astrological year. This is the final breath of the astrological year, happening in the second last degree of the last sign of the zodiac. It’s a moment to wipe the slate clean before the first spark of Aries season ignites the zodiac on March 20.

In the mythology of the seasons, Pisces is the ocean that dissolves everything that came before. It is the place where endings soften into beginnings, and where the past returns to the waters of the collective, being reborn as possibility from the cosmic womb.

This New Moon also closes the powerful eclipse portal we entered on February 1st with the Leo Full Moon. Eclipse seasons tend to move through our lives like storms… stirring emotion, revealing hidden truths and accelerating growth in ways that can feel both fated and unexpected. The Virgo Lunar Eclipse on March 3rd illuminated the patterns, habits and overthinking that have shaped our lives over the past year. Many of us felt this in our bodies… the tension between control and surrender; logic and intuition. Now, under this Pisces New Moon, the waters settle and something new begins to emerge through feeling.

This lunation will affect those with Pisces, Virgo, Sagittarius and Gemini placements the most. You can book a reading here to dive deeper into your own astrology and what the energies are asking of you at this moment.

The Last Surrender Before the Fire of Aries

This New Moon arrives just two days before the Sun crosses the celestial equator at the Spring Equinox… the official beginning of the astrological year. Aries season moves quickly, especially this year, carrying the spark of action, courage and initiation.

But Pisces asks something very different of us first. Before the fire begins, we must return to the water. Pisces is the archetype of dissolution… the moment where old identities and boundaries soften and the soul remembers its deeper truth. In traditional symbolism, Pisces is represented by two fish bound by a cord: one swimming toward the heavens, the other toward the earthly ocean.

One fish is human. The other is divine. This cord between them represents the eternal tension we live within; the dance between body and soul, intuition and reality. Pisces teaches us that true alignment happens when we stop trying to control the current and instead allow ourselves to move with it with trust in the divine.

The lunation asks us to surrender into the felt sense of life and to trust what the body already knows, even if we can’t make ‘sense’ of it logically.

Mercury Retrograde Conjunct the North Node

As the Sun and Moon align, Mercury also meets up with the North Node at 8 degrees Pisces, the same degree in which it will station direct on March 19th.

The North Node represents the evolutionary path of the collective; the direction our soul growth is pulling us toward. When Mercury meets the Node during a retrograde, the mind is instinctually led inward to revisit some felt memory.  A dream, a realization or a truth we may have ignored.

Mercury in Pisces is not operating in its usual realm of clarity and logic. Pisces is the sign where Mercury is traditionally considered in its fall… opposite one of its home signs (Virgo), the sign of analysis, precision and discernment. This is particularly symbolic given that the Virgo Lunar Eclipse earlier this month activated that exact polarity.

Virgo seeks certainty while Pisces asks for faith. During the eclipse, many of us may have noticed where we were gripping too tightly to control outcomes, overthinking decisions, or closing ourselves off emotionally in an attempt to stay safe. But Pisces reminds us that safety does not come from controlling life... it comes from trusting it.

As Mercury retrograde prepares to station direct on March 19th, just one day after this New Moon, a clarity begins to surface. But Pisces doesn’t speak in logic… insights may come through symbolism, signs and a felt sense. The path forward comes from the quiet voice of the soul that has been speaking beneath the noise all along.

The Threshold Between Dream & Reality

Another powerful influence shaping this lunation is the presence of Saturn and Neptune in the early degrees of Aries… both loosely connected to the New Moon in the later degrees of Pisces.

These two planets recently formed a rare conjunction that marks the beginning of a new collective cycle between dream and structure, imagination and manifestation. Neptune represents the world of vision, spirituality and transcendence, while Saturn represents form, responsibility and reality.

Together they ask an important question: What dreams are ready to take form in the real world? This New Moon sits right at the threshold between those two states. Pisces is the cosmic womb… the place where visions gestate before they are born into action.

You may feel this as a quiet but undeniable sense of knowing that something in your life is shifting direction. The details may still feel hazy, but the feeling beneath it is unmistakable. A deeper truth is emerging and asking you to trust it.

Liberation Through Trust

This lunation also forms a gentle sextile to Uranus in the final degrees of Taurus… a planet associated with awakening, liberation and unexpected breakthroughs.

Uranus often brings sudden insights that break us free from old patterns. In Taurus, these shifts tend to occur around themes of self-worth, stability and the material structures that support our lives.

When combined with Pisces energy, this can feel like the moment when something clicks. When you realize that the version of yourself you’ve been holding onto is no longer necessary. Sometimes liberation doesn’t look like rebellion but surrender. If we trust and release what no longer aligns, this energy reminds us that something more authentic and aligned with who we are becoming will naturally take its place.

Jupiter Direct in Cancer

Adding another layer to this story, Jupiter (one of Pisces’ ruling planets) has recently stationed direct in Cancer after being retrograde since November 11th. It won't complete its post-retrograde shadow until June 9th, but we are begining to integrate the inner journey we have been on since November now.

Jupiter expands whatever it touches. In Cancer, its focus turns toward emotional intelligence, nurturing and the deeper question of what truly makes us feel safe. Over the past several months, many people have been reevaluating their relationship with emotional security… both internally and within their relationships.

What does safety actually mean? Where do we overextend compassion for others while abandoning ourselves? Where have we built walls that keep connection out entirely?

Both Cancer and Pisces teach us about emotional openness, but they also remind us that true compassion requires boundaries. Because, without boundaries, empathy becomes depletion… but without openness, boundaries become isolation. The medicine of this New Moon lies in learning how to hold both.

The Sacred Masculine Rising

When I pulled a card to tune into the energetic theme of this lunation, the message was clear. The card was Lion’s Mane (from my astroherbalism deck), associated with both Mercury and Uranus. Its symbolism speaks of neural awakening, leadership and the embodiment of the sacred masculine.

At first this may seem surprising under such a watery New Moon. When we look deeper, the message becomes clear because Pisces dissolves & Aries initiates... and this New Moon is the bridge between the two.

The sacred masculine is not about dominance or control. It is about directed life force… the courage to act in alignment with truth once we feel it clearly. That’s exactly what this moment in the sky is asking of us. Notice the signs, feel the truth, liberate yourself from believing you’re not worthy of it – and take action in alignment with the dream.

Pisces New Moon: The Cosmic Womb

Earlier this month, the Virgo Lunar Eclipse may have felt like a door closing or something culminating, but this New Moon in Pisces wipes the slate clean.

It marks the moment we step into the cosmic womb before the next story begins. The space where new life is conceived. Before Aries arrives with its spark of initiation, Pisces invites us to rest in the waters of possibility.  To imagine, feel and to trust the invisible threads of fate guiding us forward.  What we plant in the unseen world now will soon take form.

The days that follow this New Moon may feel like the deep inhale before life begins to move quickly at the end of March and beginning of April. Mercury stations direct on March 19th and the Sun enters Aries on March 20th, initiating the new year and the Spring Equinox.

At this moment, day and night are held in balance before the light begins to grow stronger in the Northern Hemisphere. For thousands of years, cultures around the world have honoured the Equinox as a sacred turning point in the cycle of life… a moment when the Earth awakens from winter’s stillness and new life begins to stir beneath the soil. In astrology, Aries represents the first spark of creation, the life force that pushes a seed to break through the ground and reach for the Sun. But every seed must first rest in darkness before it germinates. This Pisces New Moon is that fertile darkness; the cosmic womb where dreams, visions and intuitive truths gather before they take form. As the Equinox arrives, the scales tip from water into fire, from feeling into action, from surrender into initiation. The question is no longer what am I releasing? but rather what am I ready to begin?

Momentum is returning soon, and the fire will rise. But for now, the sky asks us to pause in the sacred waters of Pisces… to listen and feel. To trust that every ending we have experienced over the past month has been preparing us for a beginning we may not yet fully see. Just like the two fish, we are always swimming between worlds. Human and divine. Instinct and spirit. Dream and reality. Somewhere between those two currents, our next chapter is already forming, ready to burst into life.

Much love,

What emotional or intuitive insights have emerged for me since the eclipse on March 3rd?

What lessons am I integrating since the eclipse season began on Feb 1?

Where have I been trying to control outcomes instead of trusting the unfolding of life?

What vision or feeling wants to guide my next chapter as we enter Aries season?

If I trusted my soul completely, what would I allow myself to initiate?

Embodiment Practice: Returning to the Waters

Begin by preparing a bath, bowl of water, or even a natural body of water if you have access to one. Add elements that feel soothing… sea salt, herbs, flower petals or essential oils. As you step into the water, imagine it as the cosmic ocean dissolving the energetic residue of the past year.

Take several slow breaths. Allow your body to soften. Then place one hand on your heart and one on your womb or lower belly.

Ask yourself gently: What is ready to dissolve? What truth is emerging beneath the surface? What would it feel like to trust my intuition fully?

As you breathe, imagine the water absorbing any heaviness or old emotional patterns. When you are ready, whisper a simple intention into the water… something you wish to embody in the coming year. Let the water hold it and the current carry it forward.
