New Moon in Pisces: Liminal Space

Eclipse season kicks off with the New Moon in Pisces at 4:59am EST on March 10th, as the last New Moon of the current astro-year unearths how the past keeps us disconnected from our divinity.

Pisces is the end and the beginning. It’s the akasha, spirit or aether. An expansive, dynamic energy field, where all universal secrets are intertwined. The primordial cosmic force that represents the very essence of potential and connectivity - the cosmic womb.

The akasha holds all soul memory, through time & space, and as the Sun, Moon, Saturn and Neptune meet in Pisces, deep remembering is occurring for many of us. A remembering of our intuitive gifts, our divinity and our humanity, our duties, but also of all ways our soul was made to shrink, hide, or keep itself small through lifetimes and generations.

This energy asks us to surrender to the cosmic womb of the akasha. To release all the stories and limitations we’ve used to survive through lifetimes, to surrender to the initiation about to take place this eclipse season.

If you have personal planets around 10-29 degrees of the mutable signs (Virgo, Pisces, Sagittarius, Gemini), this energy will be impacting you quite personally. If not, you will still be affected by this energy wherever you have these degrees in your chart.

Symbol for Pisces

vesica pisces explanation
Vesica Pisces

The symbol for Pisces comes from the Vesica Piscis (see above) which means ‘bladder of a fish.’ This is derived from the intersection of two circles and represents the joining of two worlds: the divine and the human. Christ is an obvious example of that union, but the symbol originally represented the Great Mother goddess. It stands for the yoni, the entrance to the womb, which is also the entrance to the afterlife or spirit world.

Pisces represents the waters from which life originated – the primordial Mother, the goddess of chaos who births all beings into existence and then receives them home into eternity.

The two fish swim in opposite directions, representing the paradox of being human: the spiritual fish and the material fish, rational and irrational, victim and saviour. The cord that binds them, shows they are forever bound together - the opposites are two parts of one whole.

Pisces is where the human and the divine intersect and the challenge is to find a way to unite the opposites in a way that includes and transcends both. To be in the world but not of it. To surrender to the flow of life & trust that we are being guided by something greater than ourselves. To have trust in the divine timing of life, and to embrace the divinity within ourselves. To recognize that chaos always precedes order - and although it may not seem like it at times, everything does in fact have a divine order. Nothing is by coincidence.

Breaking Karmic Cycles

As this New Moon occurs in mystical Pisces, it highlights these significant themes. Because Pisces is connected to the energy of the cosmic womb, we are starting to remember it all. And in this time of closure and completion, what’s coming up are all of the ways we have allowed ourselves to be victimized due to our need to serve or heal others. The ways that our ancestors before us perpetuated these cycles (whether they did it consciously or not), and the ways that we have lived the archetypes of victim, martyr or saviour through lifetimes. With the Lunar Nodes still being activated by Chiron in Aries, and this cycle culminating in the Full Moon Eclipse in Libra, relationships are still a point of focus. Particularly, how do these stories and patterns shape our ability to be in balanced relationships without losing ourselves? How do we take on the emotional healing of those around us? And how do we decipher what is ours to heal and what isn’t? Now is the time to break these generational cycles. It ends with you.
