On October 2, 2024, at 2:46 PM EST/11:46 AM PST, the Sun, Moon and South Node meet in the 10th degree of Libra in a Solar eclipse. This is the second eclipse this season (active until November), and is the final eclipse we will experience in Libra for the next 9 years. This lunation brings transformational shifts in our relationships and relating patterns, and is bringing to completion the journey we have been on since the South Node entered Libra in July 2023. Although Solar Eclipses generally mark new beginnings, it’s not always as black and white as that. They remind us that every beginning is also an end, and with the South Node being highlighted here - there are certain old ways of relating that are coming to light to be cleared and released at this time.
Libra, represented by the scales, is always seeking harmony. As a cardinal air sign, this energy is all about connection and relationships. As relationships are mirrors of our own unhealed parts, Libra also represents the us we see in others - the subconscious or unhealed Self that we often hide or suppress. This is how relationships help us gain self-awareness so that we can evolve and grow - they are mirrors, triggering us to face parts of ourselves that might be keeping us small or disempowered. At the same time, they reflect back the light and the gifts we may have hidden within ourselves, as we are inspired and lit up by others.
As the Moon aligns with the South Node in Libra, we are collectively encouraged to release the low vibrations, while leaning into the high vibrations of Libra energy. The South Node, illuminated by this New Moon, brings to awareness the ways we have sacrificed our authenticity in exchange for attachment, patterns which are deeply rooted in our first relationships in life (usually with our caregivers).
This is an opportunity for us to acknowledge what habits we need to release and how we need to heal in order to break cycles of suffering. Only by doing so, will we be able to make space for new ones that are truly in alignment with our soul’s truth. Our own shadows are so blatantly staring us in the face right now that it’s difficult to unsee them. We might finally be really sick of our own unhealed BS and be ready to let it all go. This is coming to us through our connections with others… and if we’re not willing to do the work, we may be projecting onto those outside of us; deeming them the problem. In reality, the polarity between Aries and Libra Nodes is about taking radical responsibility for the part we play in relationship patterns. It’s about using diplomacy, tact and fairness (Libra) and having the courage, strength and self-awareness (Aries) to show up as our authentic selves in our connections, trusting that those who are meant to be in our lives will choose to stay and honour the person we really are - flaws, wounding and all.
If you have personal planets around 0-20 degrees of the cardinal signs (Libra, Aries, Cancer, Capricorn), this energy will be impacting you quite personally. Find out if this is you by signing up to the Lunar Alchemy Collective, where you’ll get full access to this article and instructions on pulling up your chart & learning how the energy is affecting you. If not, you will still be affected by this energy wherever you have these degrees in your chart.
In my own life, I’ve had a connection come into my life that has shown me - at a level I have never experienced before - all of the ways I project my own attachment and abandonment wounding onto people in my life. It’s been hugely humbling and eye opening. All of the ways I protect myself from being hurt, all of the ways I project my abandonment wounding onto romantic partners - everything brought so clearly into the light that it made me so sick of my own BS and trauma responses. You might be in a similar place, and my advice is to use all the strength you have not to bypass it all right now. Look at it, sit with it, feel it, have compassion and communicate with those affected. And in the meantime, try your best to practice detachment, because at the end of the day, it’s eclipse season and you really don’t have as much control as you’d like to have - all you can control is how you react to what’s coming up.
